2019 Turkey Season in the Books
May 31, 2019 by Earl Oesterling
We started out the 2019 Turkey Season with cold temperatures and a half inch of snow on the ground, we ended the season with equally cold and damp temps, and close to 10 inches of snow on the ground, but the Turkey action was HOT HOT HOT!!! Both our Colorado lease and our Nebraska lease were equally as incredible in terms of getting into birds, they did not always decoy or respond to calls, but that is the great thing about hunting Turkeys out west, SPOT & STALK is a viable strategy to harvest a monster Tom!
We harvested 15 birds out of 19 clients, with three misses, and several close calls, several of those Toms did cooperate with our calls and decoys, but 6 Toms were harvested by spot and stalk! Growing up back east, I never thought this was possible, but in the open country in Eastern Colorado and Western Nebraska, its is not only doable, its actually kind of easy, if you have the right guide!
